View Full Version : Uninstalling SP2

I have XP Home Edition and I have installed SP2 and I want to know if I can
safely uninstall it using ADD/REMOVE. I cannot get AVG 7 to work. I've made
posts here as well as to the Grisoft's forum with no response. The only
other thing I can think to do is uninstall SP2, install AVG 7 and then
re-install SP2. I think the firewall is somehow blocking it because I cannot
get it to connect for updates although I have configured the firewall
according to the Grisoft's documentation. Any thoughts on this would be
appreciated.

Hi,
I am running AVG7 with SP2 successfully but from what you say in your
message you are using the Xp firewall.
This is where we differ. The first thing I did after installing SP2 was to
install Zonealarm (which is free although they will tempt you with other
"goodies").
This is fully configurable and will allow you to connect and block sites
that you require.
If you want to stick with the Xp firewall you will want to allow connection
in the security centre. If you uninstall SP2 you will loose the protection
of the firewall as that is one of the main strengths of the upgrade.
You will be very susceptible to hacker attack, as you were pre SP2.
I would advise though use Zonealarm.
