This problem happened to my friend a week ago when he tried to install a version of msn messenger 6.2: He downloaded the version from the home page of the program: messenger.msn.com and when he tried to install he got an error named 0x80070002 so I tried a lot of solution but no one works and I'm hope less.
I tried this solutions:
1. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310794
2. I downloaded all the updates from microsoft and deleted msn messenger from the registyr and from add/remove and his folder and tried to install again.
3. I tried start > run : msiexec /unreg and start > run msiexec /regserver
and I tried to install again.
4. I delted all msn messenger and did:
start > run %systemroot% and then I entered WinSxS, I changed the folder InstallTemp into InstallTemp2 and searched for the file
x86_Microsoft.Windows.Networking.Dxmrtp_6595b64144 ccf1df_5.2.0.4868_x-ww_212f7d9e
But I didn't found him so this soultion also faild.
5. I tried to open a new user but it didn't help.
6. I tried to delete this:
hkey_users\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi on\Explorer\Shell Folders\Personal

hkey_users\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi on\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Personal
from the registry but it didn't help.
7. I exit all programs from the task manager and disabled all anti-virus: Norton, Internete security etc...

But no soultion works and I don't know what to do !
I hope that you could help me to solve this annoying error,
Thank you very much,
Eyal.

solution:
make a new account with admin rights
log in as this new user
install msn without any problems
then log in as yourself
