Hi,

After installing the SP2 my CD / DVD player stopped working. It still gets
power, and during boot up my comptuer detects it however once windows
starts it
doesn't work.

I have a

Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD500-M

I recieve an error stateing:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

I have tried updating and uninstalling the driver, there are no updates, and
when uninstalled Plug n' Play auto detects and the same problem occurs.

I emialed the developers of the Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD500-M they said this
isn't an uncommon problem after installing SP2 and that I should physically
remove my DVD-Rom and reinstall it. Well I uninstalled the drivers, turned
off the machine unplugged any plugs going to the dvd re-pluged turned the
machine on Plug and Play auto detected but it still won't work.

I really don't want to reformat my hard drive just to install regular XP,
and I sadly can't remove SP2. Even though I choose the option to have a back
up made when I installed it or what ever you want to call it. Frankly I
really regret installing SP2.

I guess I may have to take my CDrom from my PII and move it over to my newer
machine and hope that works. I wish I knew XP SP2 may disable my CD / DVD
player I wouldn't have installed it.

Thanks for any help.
Martin
