Blue screen DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - SP2/Java

Hi

Running XP SP2 on a brand-new HP notebook, I am consistently getting this
crash, but only when I attempt to access a particular site's Java chatrooms.
All other applets seem to run fine and I can't come up with any hardware or
software driver problem that would account for this. Have been through most
of the resource here, but none of this seems to link this crash to applets.

Does anyone have any experience or ideas?

Hi Leontes!!
My suggest is that disable all the chache at CMOS. That would fix the
problem. Tell me if it works!! Hope it helps!! bYeZ!!

Hi Leontes,

To determine what driver is causing the problem I need you to enable driver
verifier.
Steps:
1) Windows Key + R
2) Type in 'verifier' and hit enter
3) Make sure 'Create Standard Setting' is selected and hit next
4) Click on 'Select all drivers installed on this computer' and hit Finish
5) Reboot

There is a possibility that your computer will crash on reboot. If this
occurs hit F8 when rebooting just before the windows logo screen and select
the safe mode boot option. Follow the same steps above but on step 4 choose
'Select driver names from a list'; hit next; check the box next to any
driver where the provider is not Microsoft; hit Finish; reboot.

This will slow the performance of you computer a little while enabled but
will hopefully catch the driver causing corruption. Next time you crash
the blue screen will hopefully say something like
"DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION". If this occurs please send the
corresponding minidump (by default it is at c:\windows\Minidump ) my way.

Hi and thanks for the responses.

One of the problems with this crash was that the blue screen was only
displayed for a second or two, and so I wasn't able to read off the name of
the driver causing the problem.

I eventually overcame this and found out that the offending driver was
W29N51.SYS - the device driver for my Intel 2200BG wireless network adapter.
Although Windows Update could not find an update for this driver, two were
available on the OEM website, and installing the updates has resolved this
problem.
