Hi

I am setting up a test environment and have two computers (referred as A
(running XP) and B (running Win98)) connected to a third (referred as
gateway, also running XP Pro) which has 2 network cards. One is connected to
the cable modem and the other one is connected to the internal switch. I set
up the ICF and ICS on that gateway and now both computers A and B can
access the internet and I can even voice chat with people from outside this
little network.

Now what happend: I had a little keyboard chat betweeen me and my wife
sitting in front of computer A and B (so both on internal network) and
suddenly I had text on the chat window of computer A which was NOT entered
from the other computer B. I'm 100 % sure, because both computers are right
next to each other. So I could see what my wife was typing. I simply sent
her a heart emoticon and said that I loved her. Then I got an answer like
"me to, shall we meet on a seperate IP so we can talk private?". But she
didn't write that and I haven't invited anyone else to our conversation.
Computer A is running Windows Messenger and B is running MSN Messenger 6.

How can this be? I'm running the latest virus scanner and there is only
standard software on the computers, no freeware-stuff that could have
troyans etc. I'm really worried about security now. Is the XP gateway not
secure enough? How can someone from outside see what I'm writing and even
write something too. Very scary....
