I figured I had waited long enough to try SP2 - wish I had waited longer.
After installing SP2, my Epson C82 printer would only print in black & white,
so I downloaded and tried to install the latest driver. It removed the
printer and existing driver and then "blue screened". Also Xp refused to
shutdown properly since the initial reboot after SP2 install. And MSN
Messenger 6.1 now hangs repeatedly. After fighting and "blue screening" for
several days, I decided to remove SP2. It now shutdowns properly but still
hangs on MSN Messenger and times out with an I/O error when trying to
reinstall the printer and drivers. I use Nortons antivirus, and it's up to
date, as well as have a firewall and have thoroughly scanned for any viruses
or worms and scans are completely clean. Event logs show no problems, I ran
Norton's registry cleaner, defragged and still it is very sluggish on top of
the rest of the problems. Any ideas? solutions other than reinstalling XP &
SP1?

Go back to the earlest restore point , and give it a try. I am running the
same printer and probably the same driver with SP2. If no joy try a repair
install. JJ
