I do not know how to tell my"A" computer to let my "B" computer in and out
vice-versa. It all worked perfectly until SP2's firewall locked me out of my
own stuff. Thanks

Do you have File & Printer Sharing enabled on the Exceptions tab in the
Windows Firewall?

If your computer has a 3rd-party firewall program (Norton, ZoneAlarm,
McAfee, Agnitum, PC-Cillin, eTrust, etc), disable SP2's firewall.
Running more than one firewall can cause networking problems.

If SP2's firewall is the only firewall, configure it to allow file and
printer sharing on the local area network:

1. Go to Control Panel | Security Center | Windows Firewall.
2. Click "On (recommended)".
3. Un-check "Don't allow exceptions".
4. Click the Exceptions tab.
5. Put a check mark in the "File and Printer Sharing" box.
6. Click Edit.
7. Put a check mark in each box.
8. If the Scope doesn't say Subnet, click the "Change scope" button
and click "My network (subnet) only".

I have a similar problem. This did not change my inability to see my computer or any
other computers (2 others) on my local network. Computers Near Me displays nothing
but Unknown.

If I go to the Run/Cmd window, and enter various pings like ping localhost, ping
127.0.0.1, I get a ping. If I try 192.168.0.3 (this XP computer) or 192.168.0.1 (in
another room), I get "request timed out". If I go to one of the other computers and
try to ping the other computers, I get "unreachable".

Please don't hijack someone else's thread, even if you think the problem
is similar. It makes it hard to give both posters help, and if we think
the first poster's problem is resolved, your question might not even
get addressed. So make a new post with your question, giving all
pertinent details.

Sounds fine to me. I copied the exchange above into my similar problem posted as "XP
Pro, SP2, Firewall and My Workgroup".
