Hi, I am hoping someone can help. I upgraded to SP2 ysterday and ever since
my PC has been running very slow. Several minutes longer at startup - and
long pauses at various times .

I have run ad-aware, spybot, and 2 anti0virus programs and could not find
any issues (that I hadn't previously resolved). Also I scaled back the
number of programs that load at startuop and still problems.

Looking under properties - I see:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration
information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

but clicking on troubleshoot has been useless.

Can anyone suggest the best way to remedy this problem. I am hoping it is
related to my PC slowness issue after SP2 since I saw several other folks
mention issues with Plug and Play after SP2.

Thanks
John

Doing some research - based on some other posts here - I went into my Device
Manager and saw that I do have an error with "PLUG AND PLAY BIOS EXTENSION"
under system devices

SORRY - a paragraph of my post somehow went out of order. It should read:

This seems to be a temporary problem after upgrading to SP2. Mine became
normal again after about four days.

It can take several days and 3 or 4 reboots for it to speed up. First
defrag. The boot prefetch will kick in after the 3 rd reboot. It takes
several days for the prefetch folder to be rebuilt. And the in built
optimization kicks in every 3 days. After that defrag again. If the
system is still slow after some days try some clean boot troubleshooting
to see what may be hanging up on startup. A program may need to be
uninstalled / reinstalled:

Rock and Deerbuck - thanks for your advice and input.

I use Diskkeeper "set and forget "to defrag my drives - but didn't realize
they would become so fragmented after upgrading.

Things are moving faster now - still not pre-upgrade speed but a lot better.

Thanks
