How do I disable programs except explorer and systray. To
install some new programs, programe that are running are
to be disabled. I know how to do it in 98 but not XP.
Thanks, Barrie

When you receive that message what it really means is to close programs that
you are currently running while you install the program. In other words
don't multi-task while you are installing an application. There really is no
need to shutdown any services however you might want to right click icons
located in the Systray (next to the clock) and then click their disable or
exit commands. If you use any apps that dump Temp files on shutdown you
should ensure that they aren't running before you attempt an installation as
some installer write files to the Temp folder and when you reboot the
installation continues. If the Temp folder is cleaned on shutdown then
installation won't proceed.

Same as in Windows 98---ctrl-alt-delete, then end task on each
one.
