I've just downloaded Windows Messenger 5.0 and I've
noticed that MSN Messenger 6 icon got removed from the
toolbar on IE6 on XP. I remember Jonathan Kay giving me a
reg file, but I don't want to try that same file again
until I know it's okay to use that same file.

Why did it remove it from the toolbar?

Greetings Sam,

It's perfectly safe. I'm not quite sure why it was removed, I'll look into it further
though.

Okay thanks.

The fact that it happened with upgrading Windows
Messenger makes me wonder if it's going to happen when
upgrading MSN Messenger as well. When installing
MSN/Windows Messenger, it does modify the registry and
make backup copies that was previous installed from other
versions.

Hi Sam,

The MSN Messenger installer shouldn't touch this, so that should be okay. The built-in
System Restore feature in Windows XP assists in "backing up" the registry (among other
things), so you can always undo an install if something seriously goes wrong.
