View Full Version : SP2 upgrade clobbered files

Running a Dell 4400, SP2 upgrade failed and I was forced to reload XP from
the Dell Disk.
When it was finished, it appeared all the files were wiped out. I then
loaded SP2 which went fine.
There were no users so I set up the 2 I originally had.
It turns out that all the files were there, but hidden. The programs icons
were wiped out, and I can't seem to access or get the programs running.
Any ideas on finishing the "restore job" and getting things where they
belong? They drivers were wiped out and had to be reloaded. Or at least I
think they were gone.
Thanks in advance

For the programs, reinstall them.
What exactly happens with your data?
Perhaps you need to Take Ownership, #9 on this link

Thanks for answering. All the data and program files are there. Originally
hidden then XP showed them all when asked to. For esample, Excel. When I
try to load the program from the icon in the excel directory, I get a
message that it can't find a cerain file. The file was actually in the same
directory. I'm going to reload the program files I need and see what
happens.
Any ideas on how to get back the email addresses in outlook express?

Jeff;
From an Administrator account, search for "*.wab" , that is your address
book.

Thanks, found it before, now looking for my mail. Seems When I reload a
program, everything comes up as before. Windows is so helpful that way.
