In uninstalling Windows Messenger I got this error message. What should I
do.

When Windows Messenger is uninstalled does it uninstall the .NET program as
well?

Greetings Bob,

This usually indicates that Windows Messenger was still running when you executed the
command. To try again, firstly, if you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed, open Norton
Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by
the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then
uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.

Secondly, open up the Task Manager (press Ctrl-Alt-Del, or right-click in the taskbar and
choose Task Manager), click the Processes tab and look for 'msmsgs.exe'. If you see it,
click it and then click 'End Process'. After confirming this, run the uninstall again.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by ".NET" program -- if you're referring to the .NET
Framework, this will have no effect on that. Messenger isn't related to anything .NET except
for .NET Passport, .NET Alerts and the .NET Messenger Service -- all of them services, not
actual software on your computer.

Jonathan,

I just got my computer a week ago. I don't have norton antivirus on the
unit. I also could not find "msmsgs.exe" in the task manager. The closest I
can get to that is "BCMSMMSG.exe"?

Ran the uninstall again and got the same error message?

Hi Bob,

If msmsgs.exe isn't running, then there's no need to worry, it's been uninstalled.
