i had the exact same problem, and i skipped right to
number 8 and it worked!(thank you sooo much!) but what
did i do by doing number 8?

Hi Stef,

You essentially "re-installed" a component of Internet Explorer's Service Socket Layer (SSL),
which Messenger uses to securely sign you in.

Also Jerry, if you're going to copy my posts word-for-word, it's standard netiquette to
include the original posters signature (which would be mine).
