Windows XP SP2

I have recently uploaded windows XP with the SP2 included. I have also
recently subscribed to a music downloading website 'Kaza Gold'. While
attempting to download music i encountered problems as far as the
connectability goes. I established contact with the support staff and they
stated to me that if i had SP2 loaded that I had to uninstall it, due to the
added security features that it posseses. If I unistall SP2 will it effect
the my computer and programs at all.

Roger, suggest finding a different music source vs. running without the
security benefits of SP2. I know that Kazaa states at their website that
using their software is safe but we see otherwise from problems posted here
in the groups. It sets your system up as a server to other Kazaa users and
opens it up to viruses and malware.

It's up to you what you'll do in the end but if you do run into trouble,
you'll find very little help once Kazaa is mentioned. Can just about
guarantee that the first bit of advice will be to uninstall Kazaa to cut
off the source of intrusions. Suggestion: If you have an older second
system around the house, maybe set that one up with Kazaa and keep the
"good" PC clean and safe.

Kazaa is a haven for spyware and other malware. The fact that they want you
to remove something that increases your computer's security should tell you
all you need to know about this "product".

Don't remove SP2. Do remove the malware it installed.
CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:

http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

You are taking advice from a thief on how to configure your operating
system so their crapware can run on it? Do you really consider Kazaa to
be a critical application that qualifies disabling security,
degenerating your OS to a prior patch level, and regardless of any
effects on your other actually critical applications?

You're asking for sympathy and help while trying to commit questionable
actions. Uninstall it. Then do a full scan using a recently updated
anti-virus program followed by scanning with recently updated
anti-spyware products, like Ad-Aware and Spybot and maybe some of the
freebie online scans, like from Pest Patrol. If it is a brand new and
fresh install of Windows XP SP-2, and if you have the time and
inclination, better yet would be to boot using the install CD, let it
format the OS partition, and do a fresh install again. Then start
saving drive images to cover your butt so you can restore to a known
prior state (i.e., do NOT rely on System Restore).

I downloaded SP2 from a Internet site and it was huge 266mb, and it seemed
to install OK, but now I can't view Temporary Internet Files, and names of
the Explorer folders seem to be different than those I have at the office.
Firewall did not install either. Someone mentioned that this may be a
network version, whatever that means? But, I was unable to get Microsoft to
download SP2 from Updates, so I took the chance that this was a viable route
to go? I question that now... does anyone know how to get the Temporary
Internet Files to appear in Explorer, I can locate the Temporary Interent
File folder, but there's no detail! I don't have any hidden files, and I use
the classic view, with details and extensions, but no Temporary Internet
Files appear????
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate on all accounts. Plus, I was
unable to post a new message under Windows XP general just a few minutes ago.

browser. I tried to look at all settings, but can't figure out what the

Did you have your anti-virus turned off when you installed SP2?
If not, remove SP2, turn off the anti-virus, and install SP2 again.

Thanks everyone for their advice. I have since uninstalled and completley
removed kazza, and have also purchased anit-spyware and scanned computer and
did find an amazing amount of spyware. Can anyone recommend a reputable site
where I can download music without too many dramas.
