XP Home update

Hi @all!!
i've got a problem with an update from xp home to xp
prof.bevor i do the update the device manager is fine
after the update it shows in the device manager:
base system device
when i install xp prof fullversion the device manager is
also fine.the failure is only when i use the xp update
programm.who has got an idea what base system device is?in
the device manager when i look in the properties the base
system device doesn't use an IRQ.
who has got an idea??
