View Full Version : XP SP2 + Word 2002 = Slow opening files?

Hello. Happy New Years :-)

I just upgraded from XP SP1 to SP2 this morning. Before, Words 2002,
which DOC and RTF files open with by default, opened nice and quick.

Now after going to SP2, when I double click (or highlight and hit enter)
it takes about 20 seconds to open. (Though WordPad still opens
instantly.)

I've tried it with any document, local or on network share, always the
same thing, 20 seconds and explorer gets a little hang-ish during the
wait (ie: I can't seen to get the right click context menu to shop up
until the wait is over.)

Though, if I go through startmenu, and open Word manually, it opens
right away, in it's bare state. I then can go top open and select any
doc or rtf file I've tried and then they open right away.

Is this a known issue? I spent some time on google (www and groups) but
could not find help for this.

Thank for any help, and again, Happy New Years to all.
