I have been trying to do a repair on my system. I go to though the process of
the repair and it says my product key is invaild. I no matter what way i type
it in. i have an install useing a different windows folder right now to get
me back up and running in to windows but my programs wont work. thus the
reason of trying to repair the old windows folder.

Hi
How was the original XP installed - by yourself or by a supplier?

odds are the slipstreamed version you have does not match your key.
For XP pro, for example, there are three different versions--OEM, RETAIL and
UPGRADE (well, and Volume license).
The key for one will not work for another
