My WinXP Pro OEM SP2 system will not install Recovery Console. The error
reports that the installed version of Windows is newer than what I'm
installing from. This occurs using a slipstreamed SP2 CD, the i386
directory I copied from the SS CD, or the original SP1 CD. The SS CD
boots fine and I can get to RC from that.

Before attmepting to install RC I changed the setup directory registry
entry to C:\ after I copied i386 directory to the C: drive as a test.

You can install the recovery console with a Version of Windows XP that has
been slipstreamed with SP2.

As I said, I did use a slipstreamed SP2 CD, you must've missed that,
perhaps due to my poor writing. It didn't work. It said the installed
version of Windwos is newer than what I'm trying to install from. I then
tried it from the i386 folder copied from the SS CD. Same deal. I then
tried from the original SP1 CD for grins, same deal.

The slipstreamed CD boots fine and I can get to RC from that but cannot
install RC to the system from any source I have available.

I used AutoStreamer and then burned the resulting ISO to CD. Both
reported success. I will try slipstreaming another CD again, perhaps
using another method.

Mine is OEM but that should still work, shouldn't it?

Maybe not! The OEM CD can have information added or missing - as compared to
the Retail version!

I used AutoStreamer also. Worked great. (-:
