View Full Version : Rolling back to SP1 on a PC delivered new with SP2

I just received a brand new PC from Toshiba that was supposed to be delivered
with XP Pro SP1. When I started it up, I found it has SP2 installed from the
factory.

A critical piece of software we use is totally incompatible with SP2, which
is why I specified SP1 when I made the order. Is there any way to roll back
to SP1 when the originally installed version is SP2? If this is possible it
ill be much easir than returning all the PCs to Toshiba.

Thanks

If your new PC came with Windows XP with SP2 preinstalled,
you cannot uninstall SP2 since it was "slipstreamed" into the
Windows XP operating system files.

I agree with Carey. You should contact Toshiba since this was not the build
that you wanted. Toshiba should be able to reinstall your OS with SP1.

Like the others said, you will probably have to return the machines to
Toshiba. In addition, many majoe manufacturers install hdds with the
OS factory installed. In other words, they would have to find disks
with SP1 installed rather than SP2. This is unlikely as they would
probably cycle their inventory in a short time frame.

I called Toshiba, and in not so many words indicated that Microsoft mandated
that they be shipped with SP2, and that I needed to contact Microsoft with my
problem.

Called Microsoft XP support; they say it's an OEM product, and therefore,
Toshiba's baby (which is what I expected).

Meanwhile, I have a brand new still unopened in the box $1700 notebook PC
(and another on the way) that are both useless to me as delivered.
