View Full Version : B****y DUN

Hello, people,

New computer (son's), xpsp1
Two problems:

(1) DUN can't remember the password I put in, even though I have
checked the "remember password" thing. I've tried deleting the
connection and setting up a new one, but the same thing happens.
Poor son has had to learn a random 10 digit letters and figures in
order to check his email and do homework.

(2) Something, somewhere is dialling up without anyone asking it to,
apparently at random. This would be bad enough if the DUN could
remember the password, but as it can't, it's dialling up and then not
connecting. Please could some kind soul list for me all the things I
have to tell not to dial up so that it only does it when asked.

I was wondering if WIndows messenger might be the guilty prog, since
it appears to be in the startup menu - I'm going to take it out of
startup and see if that helps tomorrow (too tired and fed up tonight).
Any other suggestion?

Please note this is in the wrong newsgroup. There is probably a newsgroup
related to your ISP available somewhere. Also, there are a ton of internet
explorer related and dialup related newsgroups regulated by microsoft. Lucky
for you, I felt in the mood to answer your question.

Contact your ISP to get the password reset.

Probably a klez virus or something. Not much to be worried about, it's just
some ads trying to pop up. Virus detectors generally cannot detect the klez
virus, but you could try scanning for viruses. Try going to symantec.com and
getting a virus removal tool for the klez virus. Symantec calls it
w32.klez.______ (its many variant forms have many different names, thus the
blank). If you can't find it, oh well, no big deal. If you really want to
get rid of it, try reinstalling internet explorer. Be aware, however, that
this would cause you to lose all of your favorites, settings, etc.

No. Windows messenger is properly configured to only sign on when an
internet connection is available.

Who the hell is this MiniDisc puke. Why in god's name has
he or she been allowed to be the NG police. We the public
will decide what is appropriate to answer not you. Please
refrain from any further comments on "wrong News Group".
You really are beginning to bore me. Good luck.

>I agree, I feel bad when I see someone kicking everyone
for using the wrong newsgroup. I felt like giving a
similar reply, except I'm so new, I didn't feel I had the
credentials to do it. Problem I have, is that I don't
know how to find the right newsgroup! Is there a chart
somewhere that tells what each catagory should contain?
I had a post on Help_And_Support, and don't think there
have been more than 2 or 3 questions on that group in the
last week that pertained to help and support. Now,
tonight, I cannot even find the group. I'm lost. Stan
