Last December 23rd I took delivery of a new system (Athlon64 3200, 512 MB
DDR, DVD ROM, DVD+RW, Windows XP Home and drivers installed). The next day I
installed SSI's "PanzerGeneral II" (1997), which includes an old version of
DirectX. Subsequently, I was unable to play DVDs on either DVD-ROM or DVD+RW
drives: i.e. the disk would load and play audio, but no video (black
screen). Trying to rectify the problem I have (1) downloaded and reinstalled
DirectX 9.0 c, (2) attempted System Restore, (3) carried out a Repair
Installation of WindowsXP, (4) carried out a Clean Installation of Windows
XP, all without effect (except that dxdiag.exe now reports that DirectDraw
Acceleration, Direct3D Acceleration and AGP Texture Acceleration are all
"not available", and the system will no longer play Atari's "Zapper".
Does anyone out there know what's going on?
