I'm new here, and this is my first post, but I might be able to help.

I realize I'm a little late in this reply, but it appears to me from my
downloading of all _recent_ threads/posts, that this might not have been
answered yet. I'm starting with all posts from November 1st, to get a
feel for the group.

As for the original inquiry, Bill said that he had checked 'Add/Remove
Programs' and couldn't find the messenger files to unload. Did that
include looking at the 'Windows Components' part of that page, in the
far left column/frame? This is the same as if you want to remove
certain games like Solitaire -- which are optional 'components' of
windows. I'm running WindowsXP Home, and Messenger appears on my screen
as such a 'component' and I have removed it from my computers that way.

Cheers.

P.S. -- Am having trouble with reinstalling the OS on a replacement HDD,
because it can't find the 'ghost' file. If anyone thinks they might be
able to help me, I'll provide more details. Thanks.
