View Full Version : DeskTop Messenger

After some cleaning up using PestPatrol etc, I now seem
to have lost backWeb.dll. The message I get (twice) when
I log in is:
"
Runner Error
Could not load the target dll ("C:\Program Files\Desktop
Messenger\8876480\6.1.0.155-
8876480L\Program\backWeb.dll", error code 126".
"
I would like to get rid of these messages. What are they
about? Do they matter?
Thanks.

Greetings pvp,
What you're seeing is the Desktop Messenger from Logitech -- this (and the backweb file) is
not related to any Microsoft application.
To remove this message, you'll probably need to uninstall (or reinstall) the Logitech
software from Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

Are you serious? I'd heard that backWeb (spyware's the name of the game)
came into my system because I've got a Compaq presario. But I too have a
logitech peripheral (cordless optical mouse). Can I uninstall the desktop
messenger software without losing the drivers for my mouse?

Hi Joshua,
I found this link which addresses it:
http://www.backweb.com/services/html/spyware.html
It looks like both Compaq and Logitech bundle it. I think you should be able to remove the
Logitech software without affecting the mouse drivers, however, if there's anything specific
about the software (for example, customizable buttons, etc.) this will probably be disabled.
