View Full Version : Can't download SP2

I'm lost in the world of the absurd. I have the XP CD - but when I try to
use it, I get an I/O device error (further details flash off too fast to
read). So I decided I'd download. I use Windows Update -- and nothing
happens. I try going to the Microsoft site and can't find anything to
download or to help.

What on earth do I do now? Doesn't Microsoft love me anymore?

That's kind of ridiculous, since a friend borrowed that CD to use and found
no problem with it. Why am I having all this hassle?

The "borrowed" CD was for SP2 which MS sends free if you ask for it, so no
pirating involved. Don't be so quick to accuse.

See, you should have sent that christmas card to Redmond.

Yeah, I guess so. Anyway, I finally figured out the prioblem. When the
error message stayed on screen, I could see that setup was trying to extract
the files to "g:/xxxxxx" and I suddenly realized that I had my MP3 player
connected as an external hard drive. And that was the I/O error. Usually
the message flashed by too fast and besides it was a lowercase g. After
that, the process went along faster than I expected with no problems at all.
Everything works fine.
