I can no longer access messenger, or my online banking. i
get a message saying:

Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX
controls on this page. As a result the page may not
display correctly
I have tried changing the security settings, but still no
joy. I can't use windows updates either

Greetings Alison,

Just to check, open up Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then
Security tab, click the Internet zone (should already be selected), then choose 'Default
Level', and then click OK. Assuming you've done this, some internet security/privacy
software can also disable ActiveX controls from running and installing.
