I have a client who is running Windows 98 SE and has MSN
Messenger installed. If MSN Messenger isn't running in
the system tray, you receive the following error:

MSNMSGR executed an invalid instruction in
module <unknown> at 0000:00000123.
Registers:

This happens everytime you go into OE version 6. The
message doesn't appear if it is running in the system
tray. What's going on?

Greetings Sam,

If you download and run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/stopmessenger_oe_9x.reg
this will disable the Outlook Express Messenger integration, thereby not causing this to
happen.

Okay, I think I know what you're talking about. Disabling
Outlook to prevent when you start MSN Messenger. I went
into Outlook but the check mark was not there already.

This is strange. I doubleclick on MSN Messenger and OE
opened. When I went into AOL Instant Messenger the
welcome screen just sat there. When I sign in the box
just sits there. Then when I double click MSN Messenger,
OE opened. So, I guess the settings are wrong in OE.

Hi Sam,

This reg file does *not* do what the checkmark does -- the checkmark only works under some
circumstances and Messenger is *still* called. This registry setting in my .reg file
eliminates it completely.
