Hi,

I just installed SP2 on my XP Home desktop, but now i cant get an internet
connection.

Im on a home network made up of a NetGear DG834G wireless router/firewall,
and NetGear WG311 PCI wireless cards in both desktops (mine and my dads).

I downloaded and installed the latest drivers and software for the network
card, which got me back on the network, but no internet access via the router.

Any suggestions?

This has worked for some users with the same problem after installing
SP2:

Open services... from Run -> type in "services.msc" (no quotes) and
press enter. Scroll on down to the entry which states "Wireless Zero
Configuration". Right click the entry and select "properties".
Change the "startup type" to "disabled". Make your way out of
services and reboot. Run through the setup configuration again in
order to enable your network to get on the internet.

I disabled the Windows Firewall first. I know about the problems it causes,
and felt it best to disable it for now and worry abut it later.

Ive got the latest drivers from NetGear for the WG311.

I tried your fix, but it hasnt made any difference at all. Its almost as if
it cant see the internet connection at all. It doesnt even appear to TRY and
connect.

This is the second time ive tried to get this installed, and had to
Uninstall SP2. When i did that, anything installed or updated after the
removal of SP2 was no longer able to access the internet. Is this info of any
use?

i should also note that letting Windows Manage the connection doesnt help
either. and when set to optain the IP automatically it gets a completely
wrong IP, Subnetmask and Gateway. Only by setting it myself can i get it onto
the network.

Ive tried various winsock fixes too.
