sfc error

iv been trying to use the sfc cmd in the "dos console" in
win xp but it will only give me an error "windows file
protection could not initiate a scan of protected system
files." and then gives me the error code
of "0x000006ba". does anyone out there have any ideas
what is going on? how do i unprotect those files so i
can check them? thanks for all your help.
