I have a bunch of devices which I use with Firewire. There's an Apple iPod
4th Gen, an external hard drive, and an external CD-RW. They have all worked
before.

I just did a clean install of Windows XP SP2, and they even worked after
that... Suddenly, they stopped. I installed the fix Microsoft has available
but that diddn't help. I can't figure out what is causing this. The problem
exists on two different computers.

Any ideas?

Are you sure?

All the iPods that I have seen use a USB cable to connect to PCs. Same with
external devices such as mouse, keyboard, cameras, floppy drives, hard drives
etc.

I've experienced the same problem. With XP SP2 the firewire just
suddenly stopped working. Windows recognizes my camcorder when using
the USB interface, but it doesn't do plug-and-play anymore with my
camcorder when using firewire. I even bought a new firewire cable and
card, but it hasn't started working yet. Did you ever come up with a
solution?

I had similar problems (it ended up being a faulty firewire cable), but
I found quite a useful thread dealing with replacing the SP2 firewire
drivers with SP1 versions that seems to help many people with similar
problems. Check out the thread <A
