msn mesenger 6.1

Everytime I open my msn messenger 6.0 it askes me to
update to 6.1 but it will not work say failed every time
then askes me to go the msn messenger web site and down
load from there and when i do i get an error "1601". Does
anyone know what this is or were to find out what that
1601 error code is ?

1601 is actually a generic error code, however, this usually happens if your Windows
Installer is not working properly.

To correct, do the following -- click Start, then Run, and type the following:
%systemroot%\system32\dllcache\msiexec.exe /regserver
then click OK.

After this, run the install again.
