View Full Version : Error after loading SP2

I get this error message when I shut down the Laptop. It only stays up for a
few seconds than goes away.
Blue screen with "Page fault in non page area", and at the bottom of the
page:
Stop: 0x0000008e (with a string of 4 groups of numbers and letters)
and sometimes
Stop: 0x00000050 (with a string of 4 groups of numbers and letters)
Here are the laptop specs:
Gateway Model # 450SX4
P4 1.6GHz mobile CPU
256 M RAM
Bios Ver 35.00.23
I loaded Adaware and Spybot and cleaned all the spyware off of it. Updated
the virus definitions. That worked and everything was working good except
Windows would not show the available wireless networks in the area, even
thought it connected to my wireless network and I could get on the internet.
I than loaded SP2, it loaded find, than hung up when it was trying to
restart. I waited a while than restarted the computer. It seemed to finish
fine except when I tried to shut down. I would get this error message (see
above). When the message goes away, the computer re-starts. When it boots up
it gives me This error message:
Error Signature:
BCCODE: 1000008e BCP1: c0000005 BCP2: 805d937c BCP3: f8vaeaf0
BCP4: 00000000 OSVER: 5_1_2600 SP: 2_0 Product: 256_1
There is a log in the TEMP directory, but if I cancel the message the log
file goes away. I did not see an error in the log but it was getting late.
Tonight I was going to try to uninstall SP2.
Any help is appreciated

Frank,
Thanks for the link. It looks like a hardware, or driver problem but I am
not sure which it is. There is no problems listed in device manger.
Unfortunately the owner wants the laptop back. What are the chances that
uninstalling SP2 will get me back working? Can I uninstall from the
add/remove programs?
Thanks
Tony

You can uninstall Windows XP Service Pack 2 from Add or Remove Programs.
