View Full Version : messenger causing huge firewall log

Good to know I'm not alone. This sucks, I'm so sick of
all these programs that don't have a way to stop them
from trying to connect. Other offeders are DS Log which
is Dell's support, M.S Office, Sonic update manager which
is a CD label program that tries to connect. they all
have options to not auto update which I select, however
they still wake up and try to phone home.

BUT MESSENGER is the WORST! it attempts every hour for 3
hours at a clip at 600 attempts per hr. or so, then it
quiets down & out of nowhere it starts up again. I think
it happens to more people but they just don't check their
firewall logs or task mgr to see whats going on. There
should be a way WITHIN the program to KILL IT!!

I have real concerns about the stability & performance of
my work programs with the firewall grinding away blocking
hundreds of attempts.

Hopefully someone can help us with this:)

I am using Zone Alarm and I don't get these messages. Do you have your
firewall alerts set to log "everything" or just high security alerts?

You might want to try and tweak your settings,, I am not familiar with
Norton,, so I can't help you that way.

Hope this helps
