Slipstreaming Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2)???

Can you create a Slipstreaming Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) CD out
of an OEM (Gateway) Windows XP disk so that one could still do a repair
install and not lose SP2? There appears to be a number of sites outlining
how to create this disk. Any recommendations on the best one to use?

Only with a retail XP CD.

I've been successful in creating slipstreamed disc with my Dell OEM XP CD.

As has everyone else, Jerry is dangerously uninformed. One of the flaws in
the peer support newsgroups is anyone informed or not can post a reply.
Jerry may have mistaken the OEM restore media [which cannot be used for
slipstreaming] for branded or generic OEM media. From wherever he got his
info, it was wrong.

Incorrect. So long as the CD is an actual install disc and not a "recovery"
disc, it may be slipstreamed. I've done it with my Gateway CD. Note that
Dell has special instructions on their website for slipstreaming with their
install CDs. Other OEMs might have special requirements as well.

Unless you followed Dell's slipstreaming instructions, your slipstreamed CD
might not work, even though the slipstreaming process completes
successfully.

No, this isn't at all correct. I've slipstreamed several OEM CDs,
incorporating SP2.

You may be thinking of an OEM restore CD. You can't slipstream
that, but not all OEM CDs are of that type. Normal OEM
installation CDs can be slipstreamed just as retail ones can.

I said what I said because nowhere did I ever see anyone say there was a
difference between a restore CD, which was mentioned as the ONLY thing you
got with a pre-installed Windows XP and store-bought retail versions. The
majority of postings in these newsgroups do not say a vendor will provide an
equivalent to the retail version.
