Hello and thanks for any assistance anyone can offer....I have windows 2000
XP and I am running with MSN explorese as my default browser...I use verizon
online DSL for Internet service.....I was told that losing the LAN
connectivity is a somewhat regular occurance by a verizon online support rep
due to bugs in SP2 that overwrite files they shouldn't...She said I should
simply roll back my computer....It seems to me there is an easier solution to
regain full LAN connectivity and be able to keep SP2...I can browse still,
but it is slow and choppy and I can connect to or lose my voice chat through
MSN Messenger...Ive tried a number of things...Including clicking on the
"repair button in the Connection Properties box....does anyone know of a
solution to this sit....Thanks and I appreciate your comments....Babishop

The problem is well known, it's a "SP2 problem", but there is no good
solution.
You can try mine. To solve the problem, you should avoid DHCP, and use
manual settings (IP, Gateway, DNS,...) instead.
If you have a fixed IP (ask your ISP), you can set your connection settings
manually.
- Go to "Start" > "Connections"
- Right-click on your Internet connection.
- Select "Properties", click "TCP/IP", then click "Properties"
- Complete the form (IP, Gateway, DNS) using the data provided by your ISP
The connectivity should not be a problem anymore. If someone is interested
in a solution working with a dynamic IP, just ask (it's more complicated ;-)

Thanks for your post...I found it unhelpful though...though I did retrieve my
IP , DNS, Gateway, etc addresses from the winipcfg command, and I later
heard that somehow Sp2 renders the addresses useless, so I guess It wouldnt
work that way anyway...I tried to get the addresses from a verizon online
tech?...that was like asking for an expense account...
Anyway...I have rolled my computer back with success...I say SCREW
SP2...this is twice now with 2 separate malfunctions over a 6 month
period....never again!
But I after much research from many resources I think I have found a
solution!........Its called .....MACINTOSH!

C-R...GOOD NEWS!...Your solution worked!...I prepared my PC a little better
for SP2 re-install, but still I had the limited to no connectivity for the
LAN notice....This time I got my IP, DNS, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway
addresses from clicking start - help and support- tools - network diagnostics
- and then ran a ping scan of my computer(I had to set the options to include
providing the addresses)...I noticed the default Gateway Address was showing
up as "Invalid"....it was 255 255 255 255...I modified it to the standard 255
255 255 0 and punched them into the IP properties address boxes and
BANG!!!.....IM back to SKREECH on my Connection and Navigation speeds and the
limited connectivity notice is gone!....all seems very well otherwise
too....THANKS A MIL for your help C-R!...God Bless and hope this fix is good
for others too!...
