During reformatting, I encountered an inconvenience during installation.
After installing WinXP-pro, it took a few days to update. My computer must
connect to Microsoft update site. I have a slow modem. It took forever for
updating WinXP.
If Sp1 and Sp2 files are readily available, I wish to save those files in
my D-drive or CD. In case re-formatting, I can update Windows without
connection to Windows Update site. Could someone tell me where I can
download them? Satoshi

You do not need SP1 if you have SP2. All changes in SP1 are also in SP2.

Try ordering an SP2 cd from Microsoft here:

I now remember ordering Sp2 CD a quite while ago. I still did not receive.
This is something I completely forgot until I read your posting.
BTW, did MS start to ship the CD?
I will wait if it did not yet ship. If shipped already, I might try to
order again.

MS has been shipping the SP2 CD for some months now. Try ordering again.

Order the SP-2 CD again.
Typically it arrives in less than 2 weeks.

I spent all day long today for updating SP2. It is 2nd day after
reformatting and re-installing WinXP Pro.
During SP2 installation, I had atapi.sys error which I ignored (because I
could not fix the problem).

So I posted a question under a new "Emergency help needed" thread.
When booted, the computer was frozen at the Welcome screen. Is there anyway
to revert to pre-sp2 stage. My computer is out of commission now.
When searched on the internet, the ATAPI problem is caused by Alcohol120.
Indeed the program was installed. Is it possible to operate under Safe Mode
to rescue WinXP?
Regards, Satoshi

Craig;
If you just formatted, you may want to again.

Or perform a Repair Installation:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/repaxp.htm

In either case, follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist to install
SP-2:
