View Full Version : Dial-Up Password problem

I'm setting up a new computer at work that's running WinXP (with all the
latest updates) and I've created a new dial up connection for our ISP (and
before anyone says anything, there's no DSL/Cable/ISDN available anywhere in
the area). The dial up connection short cut works just fine, but if I'm
offline and try to just start IE6 or Outlook Express the dial up window
replaces the 4 character password with one that's 15 characters long. I
have removed the connection and recreated it through IE6 and I've changed
the password in IE in the connections settings but it still defaults back to
the 15 character password. What am I doing wrong?

No, it doesn't. It just *displays* the maximum number of
characters, so nobody looking over your shoulder has a head start
on guessing your password by knowing how long it is.

That's what someone else told me, but I get an invallid password warning
every time I try to connect this way.

I guess the problem lies elsewhere... thanks for the info though!

I am repliably informed this is intended to stop nosey-parkers from
guessing.

I had the same problem with a brand new xp pc. I solved it by
checking the "only allow this user to use this connection" box on the
dun pop-up thing.

Maybe it's a problem with one particular build...
