SP2 now can't install anything

Folks,

I'm running XP pro on an AMD 2000XP system.

Since I have installed SP2 most installation programs now fail. I have
tried installing itunes, 3 different games etc.. They all fail with no real
errors .

Remove SP2 and they install fine

Any thought on how to troubleshoot?

What error do you see in the event logs?

There is another patch you must have before installing sp2

Ive got a problem where I cant even boot into xp, and need the admin
password
but no one is offering help
