network problem?

I am trying to use windows messenger and my web cam to
link to my son who has the same program and web cam. As
soon as it says we are connected, it ends. Sometimes I can
see him in the little window and sometimes I can't. Also,
when I invite a video conversation, my camera's red light
doesn't automatically come on and his does. Any
suggestions?

You both might try using MSN Messenger instead to do this, as it supports completely
different ways of connecting thereby getting around a number of blocks which Windows
Messenger won't be able to get around (at least not without some work):
