the start menu delay

when i used to press the start menu button the menu used
to stay open as long as the mouse was over it,but now it
disappears after 2 seconds.this is not enough time to
read/find a program/file you might be looking for ,the
only way around this is to keep the mouse moving.how can
i stop this?
