View Full Version : Endless loop of starting

It all started with my password. Somehow or another it
changed. I fixed that in Safe Mode by logging into the
administrator account. The funny thing was that in Safe
Mode, the mouse didn't work. But I didn't care to much to
investigate it.

Then, I made some changes somewhere. Then next time I
booted up, right before the Windows splash screen the
computer reset and went into a loop of resetting and
almost starting up and resetting. Sometime in the mess of
things, A BSOD appeared with the following message: STOP:
0x00000050 (0xF80A6000, 0X00000000, 0X8081C03B,
0X00000000) PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON-PAGED_AREA. In the
Knowledge Base, they say quote, "This problem may occur if
there is a conflict between Windows XP SP1 and the display
adapter drivers that are currently installed." I haven't
had the conflict yet, but it may have been due to the fact
that when I was working on fixing my password, I tried a
restore point I made a while back and after that, I needed
to reinstall the graphics driver and display driver.

When I try Safe Mode, I get the same affect. I can get
into the boot menu but after that is when the computer
resets.

Things I've tried:
repairing the installation
safe mode (same problem as with normal)
recovery console on disk (don't know how to use or what to
do)

My big question is what to do. Luckily most of my
important files are on my second partition. I wouldn't
mind having to reinstall Windows, but I don't want to lose
files and settings. I don't have any backups of the files
on the C: drive either. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a reinstall is a good idea.

You already have more than one partition, so I really would advise you to
backup important files from C: to that. Don't forget to backup your e-mail,
if you want to keep that.

One word of caution: a reinstall will only work if, at the point of
selecting an install partition during setup, you delete the current
C:-partition and then install into that empty space. If you keep the
partition results will be unpredictable.
