Here's my problem: I cannot access any .exe file the
normal way by clicking on their icon OR a shortcut to it.
When I do, I get the message that says "Windows cannot
find [filename]. Please make sure you typed the name
correctly...". This is the same message you get if you
type a bad path into start menu=>run.
However, these files that it cannot find show up in
windows explorer and can be accessed and executed by
networked systems. While I cannot launch the command
interpereter, I can put commands to launch any program in
a batch file and start the program that way.
The problem ocurred after installing norton antivirus
2003. I installed norton on another system and encountered
the same problem. I believe it is due to a virus rebelling
when it finds norton, because I did a clean install of
windows on one of the systems and then installed norton
and everything was hunky dory. But a clean install is not
an option for the other system...does anyone know what the
virus might have done to cause this type of problem? C'est
tres bizarre.
Thanks,
Mike
