Hi, am getting a buffer underrun on the new DVD-RW drive I
have installed in my Dell XPS-B1000 running Windows XP
Home SP1 and I can't find a way to switch off DMA access
to the Secondary IDE Channel.

I looked at KB Document FA1039585 "Why do I receive buffer
underrun errors while writing to a CD with my CD-RW
drive?" and also the following two Microsoft KB documents

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;310751
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;327805

They suggested I went to the Device Manager right clicked
on the seconday IDE Channel line, choose properties and
then using the advanced tab change for DMA to PIO Only.
But when I do this I don't see an advanced tab, I only get
tabs for General, Driver and Resource. the Advanced Tab
doesn't appear at all for either IDE Channel in fact.

By the way I see three entries in the IDE/ATAPI
Controllers section, namely:

Intel (r) 82801AA Ultra ATA Controller
Primary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel

For each of these the version information is, driver
supplied by Intel, dated 01/03/2002 and version
2.1.0.2112. In the BIOS the secondary master and slave are
set to auto-detect, and the drives are connected as cable
select. I've tried switching the drives from master to
slave to see if this makes any difference, but so far
nothing seems to work. During boot up the drives come up
as UDMA=66MHZ. I looked on my laptop and on that machine
there is an Advanced tab on the devices in the Device
Manager. Could someone please tell me how I can switch off
DMA on this machine.

Thanks Mateen
