View Full Version : Multiple registrations inconsistency

I bought a windows xp computer one year ago.
Since it was infiltrated with spyware and what only God knows, I used
the provided Product Recovery disk to reinstall it.

Question:
Why should I enter the key and register again?

Another question with intro:
Before reinstalling I could not backup my files on CD-RW, after
reinstall it seems ok.
Any known virus or malfunction to justify that?

First of all, it's "activation" you're asking about, not
"registration." Registration is completely optional; activation
is manditory.

If you wiped out everything on the drive and reinstalled, you
also wiped out the activation info. So you have to reestablish
that by reactivating. But that's not a problem; it will be as
quick and easy as it was the first time.

Please help us to help you. What does "I could not backup" mean?
What happened when you tried? If you got an error message, please
quote it verbatim.

Nothing was wiped out. I 'RECOVERED' the windows xp.
Being more specific:

1. I placed the Win XP PRODUCT RECOVERY disk in the CD drive and
restarted the computer.

2. Followed the instructions to reinstall it over the existing win xp.

3. The installation was successful and I was asked to enter the product key.

4. After entering the product key and activating it, the installed
software appeared in the desktop as before.

I don't understand why do I need to enter the product key and reactivate
the product that is already installed. That's all.

Backup means recording my work on CDRW.

I reinstalled WIN XP because the recorded data was allways corrupt.

After reinstalling it, the recorder data seems ok.

Before reintalling XP I removed the IOMEGA parallel port driver, does it
have any thing to do with the CD recording malfunction?

Thanks
