Help!!! Windows XP Shutdown probs

[Grimriefer]

For Some reason i cant get my pc to shut down. I select
start then shut down and then does nothing. It will
still let me go into applications after ive done this.

The only way i can shut it down is to turn power of or
Ctrl Alt Del and disconnect then turn off from the
password Screen

Did you try going to control panel , power options , advance tab , look at
the power button options there , should say , shut down and standby.

it wasnt upgraded bought it like this but only recently
had it fixed at pc world they said it had somthing to do
with the memory manager! it was fine for about 2 weeks
then it started again
