very annoying

since installing the latest windows messenger and java vm updates from
microsoft my computer is playing up. it takes ages to start and the
messenger update did not install correctly.

is there a way to remove both updates and delete them so i can return to
normal?

does anybody else have this problem?

If they are not in Add/Remove Programs, try System Restore.

Have you tried these to see if something else might be involved:
Run an updated virus scan.
Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
Run Defrag.
If you have file sharing software such as Kazaa, disable it.
