Canon ip4000 printer problem

Just purchased new Canon Pixma ip4000 ptr but cannot install with USB wire,
but can install okay with parallel wire. Have tried 3 usb wires and all
ports appear to be working. Appreciate any help, Thanks.
OS windows xp home edition. Dell inspiron 4000.
