Windows 98 Server and XP pro SP2

Ok here we go, I have a 6 machin network, 3 98se and 3 xp pro sp2. 1 98 is
the server, \\server\server is the folder, I cannot get to it from only 1 XP
machine, also I cannot see any 98 machines in my network from this one. I
can ping the static IP bothways and no firewalls, temp disabled them for now.
I have tried sharing all C drives on all machines and enabled all netbios
over tcp/ip. Oh ya I can see XP in the server network as well as the rest of
the network. I have tried the nodetype as well but to no avail. I lost
connection after the SP2 update, ugh does microsoft ever make a product that
doesn't have a problem? Also have been waiting over 3 days for the tier 2
help not to help me! Sry don't mean to bag them but they suck, hopefully
someone out there can help me, I had to shave my head cuz I pulled most of it
out already. Thanks

Check for a browser conflict between the WinXP computers and the Win98
computers. I"m not talking about Internet Explorer here. The browser is the
program that allows any computer to see any other computer on the LAN. The
browsers for WinXP (WinNT/2K/XP) and Win98 (Win95/98/ME) don't work well
together on the same LAN.

For a 6 computer LAN, you should have 2 browsers (a master and a backup). With
the server running Windows 98, you should use the Windows 98 server, and one
other Windows 98 computer, as the browsers.

Make sure the browser service is running on the browser computers only, and
disable the browser on the Windows XP computers. Control Panel - Administrative
Tools - Services. Verify that the Computer Browser service shows with Status =
Stopped and Disabled. Disable the browser on the third Win98 computer too:

After checking / disabling / enabling as above, power all computers off to reset
the browser settings on each. Then power the server computer on, the second
browser computer on, and finally the other computers on.

The Microsoft Browstat program will show us what browsers (I'm not talking about
Internet Explorer here) you have in your domain / workgroup, at any time.

Browstat is very small (40K), and needs no install. Just unzip the downloaded
file, copy browstat.exe to any folder in the Path, and run it from a command
window, by "browstat status", on the XP computers. Make sure all computers list
the same master browser.
