View Full Version : Explorer "remember folder view settings" for Status Bar changed in SP2

In general when I use Explorer I want to see the Status Bar. However,
I keep open a folder of shortcuts in List view with no status bar.
Before SP2, what I did was set up Explorer View Options the way I
mostly liked it and selected "Apply to All folders." I also checked
the box "remember each folder's settings."

In practice, most of my folders would come up in Details with the
Status Bar showing. For my photo folders, I would manually change the
view to Thumbnails and, for those folders, "remember . . " worked
fine. The same applied to the folders where I turned off the Status
Bar. The would reopen with no Status Bar.

This changed in SP2 as to Status Bar. That is the one View choice
where "remember . . ." does not work. Explorer still remembers which
folders want List, Details, or Thumbnails. But whatever my last choice
was for Status Bar, then all the folders come up that way.

This is annoying and I think it's a bug. I don't remember this from
the beta, but I may just not have noticed it.

Hi Randy,

SP2 increased the orginal setting for saving folder views in XP from 400 to
5000. Thus, you shouldn't be having this issue. See if this helps:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)

Once done, go to: Windows Explorer/View/[Select Accordingly]. Then
Tools/Folder Options/View/Apply to All Folders.

Added info:

Manual Edit

Go to Windows Explorer/View/Status Bar. Then go to Tools/Folder
Options/View/Apply to all folders. Works for IE as well.

Automated Edit

Enable Show Status Bar (Line 67)

Related Registry Keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
"Show_StatusBar"="yes"
"Show_URLinStatusBar"="yes"
"StatusBarOther"=dword:00000001

This is more subtle than how many folders can be remembered. Before
the SP2 upgrade, I had no problem with remembering settings. There, I
had not done any tweaking above the default 400 folders. Nonethless,
after seeing your comment, I manually made the two registry edits from
5000 to 6000. Then I closed my List-view folder and opened Explorer.
Set Status bar on. Made sure Remember folder views was set and did
Apply to all folders. Closed Explorer.

Then I opened the folder I wanted to have List/NoStatusBar. The first
time it came up like Explorer, in Details with Status bar. I switched
to List and no status bar. Then I closed it.

From then on, it's like a seesaw. Whatever the last Status Bar setting
I make, the other folder comes up the same. However, the type of view
(List vs details) is (still) always correctly remembered.
