XP SP2 and 98SE Network

I just recently purchased a new computer with Windows XP
SP2 and connected it to my Microsoft MN-100 wired router
using a cable modem to connect to the internet. I then
connected my old computer, which uses Windows 98 SE, to
the router as well. I can connect to the internet on both
machines, check e-mail using Outlook Express and each can
function fine. I shared the entire C:\ on the 98SE
computer in an effort to copy some files to the new XP
computer. In My Network Places on the XP, I can see the
C:\ of the 98SE, and I transferred the files over to the
XP.
However, when I share a directory on the XP computer, I
cannot "see" it on the 98SE computer. When I attempt to
Find Computer or Files on the 98SE, the computer takes a
very long time and then returns with No Files Found.
Also, the 98SE does not "see" the new Epson Photo Printer
that I just installed on the new XP computer. The 98SE
will be located in my son's room, and I suppose he could
just save his work and then go to the XP computer to copy,
and or print it, but I would like to try and fix it.
Any thoughts or suggestions on how to resolve these two
issues?

Some people will give you the "security" risk - enable the "guest" account
on the XP machine, but I'm going to tell you to create the "userid/password"
used to start the Win98 machine on the XP machine, if you don't use
"userid/password" on the Win98 machine, you need to add "Client for
Microsoft Networks" to your network connection and create a
"userid/password" on the Win98 machine (it can be configured autologon so
you don't have to type it in each boot). Then go create the same one on the
XP machine.

Make sure that a firewall on the XP machine isn't blocking access from
Win98.

If "sheppardwk" has XP Home Edition, network access only works through
the "guest" account, and setting up matching user accounts on Win98
and XP serves no purpose. XP Home Edition allows network access by
all users, and it REQUIRES that the "guest" account be enabled for
network access.

The easiest way to do that is to run the Network Setup Wizard on XP.
Tell it that the computer connects to the Internet through a
residential gateway.

Note that enabling or disabling the "guest" account in Control Panel |
User Accounts has nothing to do with networking -- it determines
whether someone can log in as "guest" at the local keyboard.
