View Full Version : XP Pro SP2 does not "see" my Samsung SV2002H Hdd

I hope someone can help me with this. I recently bought a new computer
carrying a SATA Hdd. The config. is as follows: Intel P4 3.0 GHz Prescott,
ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe motherboard with onboard SATA, RAID and ATA133
controllers, etc. After installing XP using the necessary floppys to install
the SATA and RAID controllers I tried to put my old HDD (a SAMSUNG SV2002H)
from my previous computer in a rack to access my documents, old emails, etc.
It appears however that XP has problems accessing this drive whether in
Master, Slave or Cable Select mode. The BIOS sees the Hdd but once the system
is up and running the Hdd disappears. Does anyone know what to do?

When you boot up do you see the drive listed in the black
dos screens? If you do then it's recognized. Now if you
don't see the drive letter there is a way to get it to
show, get Powertoys for XP, download and install TweakUI,
next go to Kellys Korner (http://www.kellys-korner-
xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm) item number #1, download and
install this Tweak it will place an icon for TweakUI into
the control panel. Now open TweakUI, go to the section on
My Computer/drives check all of the boxes and reboot.

Hi,
I am having the same problem, i installed the powertoys and all the
drives are checked, but it still does not show up, i can see the
device in device manager and it says it is working fine. When i first
put it in it showed up but said i needed to format it, and that it was
a 6.87GB HDD although its 20GB. It had almost finished formating when
it froze, and now it does not show up in my computer, but does in
device manager and in my BIOS. I am running XP with SP2, AMD Athlon
XP 3000+ with 512RAM,
Thanks in a advance,
Kaz
